About Dr. Rebecca McEachern, Pediatric Endocrinologist

Rebecca McEachern MD, Pediatric Endocrinology of RI. Endocrinologist. Endocrine Disorders. Dr. Hypothalamic and pituitary function.

Dr. Rebecca McEachern is Canadian born and trained. She obtained a Bachelors of Science (with Distinction) at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Alberta and attended Medical School at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. She spent her Intern year at the University of British Columbia (BC Children’s Hospital) in Vancouver, BC and then completed a further 3 years of Pediatric Residency at Dalhousie University (IWK Children’s Hospital) in Halifax, NS. She completed her training in Pediatric Endocrinology in French at the University of Montreal (Ste. Justine Children’s Hospital) in Montreal, QC.

She moved to Rhode Island in 2003 after her fellowship to join the Division of Pediatric Endocrinology at Hasbro Children’s Hospital where she also served as an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics (Clinical) at the Alpert Medical School at Brown University. She continues to be active in medical school education in her current role as Clinical Assistant Professor of Pediatrics.

She has developed particular expertise in the evaluation and management of childhood obesity and in the detection of complications of obesity such as insulin resistance, pre-diabetes, diabetes, and menstrual irregularities. She was the Director of the Pediatric Insulin Resistance Clinic at Hasbro Children’s Hospital where 1000s of children have been evaluated and have been given tools for success. She was also the Medical Director of the CHANGES program at HCH which is a multidisciplinary program dedicated to the treatment of childhood obesity.

In addition, Dr. McEachern has become of very few providers in the area dedicated to the treatment of Cystic Fibrosis-Related Diabetes (CFRD) and other endocrine disorders common in CF. She has worked in the CF clinic with children and adults of all ages with CFRD and established the CFRD Service at Rhode Island Hospital.

Lastly, Dr. McEachern has also served on the Pediatric Brain Tumor Board at HCH and has acquired additional expertise in the long-term complications of childhood cancer.

She has won awards and recognition as an educator at Alpert Medical School at Brown University. She has served for several years on the RI Department of Health’s Committee on Children with Diabetes and is currently the Chair of the Committee.
